Disney Wish Inaugural Sailing Delayed Until Mid-July
The anticipation of the inaugural sailing of the new Disney Cruise Lines ship the Disney Wish has grown with excitement over the past year as each new detail of the ship was being revealed. Despite the Disney cast and crew, as well their Meyer Werft shipyard partners, putting their hearts and souls into making this stunning new ship a reality, that anticipation will be extended a little longer as the maiden voyage has been delayed until mid-July. The shipyard has informed Disney Cruise Line that, despite their best efforts, they would require more time to complete the ship, owing in part to the pandemic and, specifically, the arrival of the Omicron strain in Germany at a critical juncture in the process.
Guests who were booked on the original maiden voyage will be automatically shifted to a new sail date of July 14 at a 50 percent discount. If they are unable to move to the new sail date, they will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with any originally paid funds converted to a Future Cruise Credit, or a full refund.
Guests who were originally booked on the other affected sailings will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with any originally paid funds converted to a Future Cruise Credit, or a full refund.
While the new schedule is unfortunate, Disney's commitment to creating all-new enchantment aboard the Disney Wish remains unchanged. The new ship will be a celebration of Disney's rich storytelling tradition, bringing to life like never before the imaginative places and beloved characters at the heart of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars adventures.
