Jul 29, 2024

The Margaritaville at Sea Islander is a floating tropical oasis that embodies the laid-back, vibe of the Margaritaville brand. This cruise ship, originally built as the Costa Atlantica in 2000, was acquired by Margaritaville at Sea and underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment to transform it into the ultimate island escape. This 12-deck, 85,619-ton vessel can accommodate 2,210 passengers and 912 crew members. The ship boasts 11 stateroom types, ranging from cozy interior cabins to luxurious corner suites, all inspired by the sun, sand, and sea. The Islander features a soaring 14-story tropical atrium and a design that perfectly captures the essence of Margaritaville's island-inspired atmosphere. The ship's decor is infused with Jimmy Buffett's influence, featuring art and lyric references throughout, including a giant flip-flop in the main atrium.

Pool Areas

The Margaritaville at Sea Islander features three distinct pool areas, each designed to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for guests. The 5 O'Clock Somewhere Pool is a vibrant centerpiece located on the main lido deck, covered by a magrodome that can be closed during inclement weather. This pool area includes a stage for live band performances throughout the day, creating a lively atmosphere for sunbathers and swimmers alike. The pool is complemented by hot tubs and fun tables that allow guests to soak their feet while sipping on refreshing drinks.

Adjacent to this is the LandShark Pool, which offers an open-air experience and features a large movie screen for watching shows and classic Jimmy Buffett concerts. This pool also includes hot tubs and in-pool tables, making it a great spot for relaxation and entertainment. Both pools are surrounded by colorful cabanas that are free for guests on a first-come, first-served basis, providing ample opportunities for shade and comfort on sunny days.

The third pool area, the Tiki Bar Pool, is an adults-only space located at the back of the ship. This secluded pool offers a tranquil environment for adults seeking a quieter retreat. Like the other pools, it includes hot tubs and is adjacent to the Tiki Bar, where guests can enjoy cocktails in a laid-back setting. Together, these pool areas create a diverse aquatic experience on the Islander, catering to both families and adults looking for relaxation and fun under the sun.

Dining Options

The Margaritaville at Sea Islander offers a diverse array of dining options to cater to various tastes and preferences.

The Islander Dining Room and the Fins Dining Room on the Margaritaville at Sea Islander offer distinct dining experiences, each with its own unique charm and atmosphere. The Fins Dining Room, located on Deck 2, is the main dining room and features a casual, open-seating arrangement. This means there are no set dinner times, and guests cannot make reservations in advance. Instead, diners wait in line and receive a pager if no tables are available, much like a land-based restaurant. The decor in Fins is inspired by seaside vibes, with pops of seafoam blue and nautical details like nets on the lights, creating a relaxed, beachy atmosphere. The menu changes nightly, offering a variety of starters, entrees, and desserts, with highlights such as Cajun Gumbo, Caribbean Egg Rolls, and Braised Short Ribs. Fins is also open for breakfast, serving typical selections like omelets, French toast, and pancakes.

In contrast, the Islander Dining Room, located directly above Fins on Deck 3, provides a more elevated dining experience for a cost of $20 per person (at the time of this article). This venue features a slightly more upscale ambiance, with touches like white tablecloths that add a touch of elegance to the dining experience. The food in the Islander Dining Room is considered an upgrade from Fins, offering a refined menu that complements the sophisticated decor. While both dining rooms embrace the island life theme, the Islander Dining Room’s atmosphere is more polished, making it a preferred choice for those seeking a bit more formality without a significant increase in cost.
